Ageing, Health and Well-Being
There is a broad consensus that a key response to demographic ageing is to extend the length of working lives. There is much less agreement on the central questions of how and for whom to extend the number of years in employment.
This conference looks at three important inter-related issues regarding demographic ageing: life course perspective on inequalities and well-being, the importance of good health and pension policy design.
Good health is a pre-condition for a long working life, and inequalities in health towards the end of the labour market career may influence pension policy design. Understanding the extent to which inequalities are compounding over the life course with respect to labour market participation and health is important for prevention strategies, and to the effectiveness and design of pension reforms.
